After realizing that many students do not wish to fit the predetermined mold of what a “Clarkie” or “Cougar” is, we’ve decided to make a third interview column for Clark students called Clark Student of the Week. Much like Clarkie and Cougar of the Week, The Scarlet will continue the tradition of heavily favoring our friends when deciding who to interview.
Michael Bryer (’17) is a sociology major from Ricboro, Penn. When he’s not studying, he enjoys playing NBA 2K17. His NBA 2K MyPlayer averages 42 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds for the Portland Trailblazers.
Scarlet: Why did you choose Clark?
Michael: I wanted a liberal arts school that was in the Northeast, and Clark was the one that was the most impressive that I could get into.
Scarlet: What do you do here?
Michael: I play a lot of 2K, I go to the library, I go to the Bistro pretty often … I use the ATM in the UC, that’s another big one. Sometimes I walk to people’s houses.
Scarlet: So … are you in any clubs on campus?
Scarlet: …Why not?
Michael: I’m not really interested in ‘clubs’ and ‘knowing people’ and stuff like that.
Scarlet: Walk me through a day of your life.
Michael: Wake up, that’s the first thing I do. Get out of bed, brush the teeth, comb the hair, fruit snacks – that’s breakfast – usually class, lunch – usually tacos – 2K, homework, probably another class, and then watching basketball.
Scarlet: How do you balance your schedule?
Michael It’s tough, it’s tough. There’s a lot of basketball to watch, there’s a lot of fruit snacks to eat … I manage to find time. It’s all about knowing how much you have to do, taking parts of the day, making sure they’re free. There’s only, what, nine free hours of my day, so it’s tough, but I find time.
Scarlet: What’s your favorite spot on campus?
Michael: [Ten second pause] …That’s a tough one… [twenty second pause] Third floor of the library.
Michael: It’s where I get the most work done, one of the little desks near the window. You know the one I’m talking about? Right there.
Scarlet: Do you take the stairs in the Academic Commons or do you use the elevator to get up to the library?
Michael: I take the stairs, that’s how I get my workout in. Except one time I took the elevator because I was carrying food.
Scarlet: Oh, okay.
Thanks for the interview, Michael!
