Dear Trump… You Lost

In one of the most important days in the history of the United States, it looks as though former Vice President, Joe Biden, has won the 2020 Presidential election. He successfully flipped Arizona blue, while coming out on top in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania – rebuilding the blue wall in the middle of a country that crumbled back in 2016.

With the influx of heavily Democratic favored mail-in ballots being counted last in the majority of swing states, it looks as though Biden and Kamala Harris have unseated the current president, Donald Trump.

However, when Trump made his election night speech, almost nine hours since the first polls closed across the country, he prematurely claimed victory – a predictable tactic that many political strategists stated he would do weeks before. Trump ignored the mail-in ballot trends, proclaiming in his speech from the White House, “This is a fraud on the American public. This is an embarrassment to our country. We were getting ready to win this election. Frankly, we did win this election.” Fast forward to Saturday morning where all the major media outlets have declared Biden the President-Elect, citing his victories in Nevada and Pennsylvania to put him over the 270 delegate threshold.

In an election that was likely to take more than the usual one or two days, Trump knew that the results on the election night weren’t looking good. His leads in key states such as Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Georgia, weren’t likely to stick due to the majority of the remaining votes coming from largely Democratic counties. Along with this, Biden was winning early votes by almost a 3 to 1 ratio, making it difficult for Trump to maintain his initial leads. Even though during his speech, Trump was leading Pennsylvania by almost 15 percentage points and 690,000 votes, it was simply not enough.

The President shifted his focus, blaming the ballot counting process first in his speech early Wednesday morning –

“This is a major fraud in our nation. We want the law to be used in a proper manner. So we’ll be going to the US supreme court. We want all voting to stop. We don’t want them to find any ballots at 4 o’clock in the morning and add them to the list. It’s a very sad moment”

At the time of the speech, and even in the following days after his remarks, there have been no credible accounts of fraud in the election, with only one case of minor machine malfunction having been reported in Michigan. Trump is appealing to his cult-like followers who eat up every false claim he is spewing. Despite there being no credible evidence to these claims of fraud, he knows that he can manipulate his supporters into believing there was foul play. With mail-in ballots being counted last in states such as Pennsylvania, he can make it look like the Democrats mysteriously came back in the commonwealth and his loyal followers will believe him.

This line of rhetoric caused those on the right to contradict themselves over and over again. Protests were conducted throughout the week in Arizona to “count the votes,” a state where Trump was losing, while his same supporters were yelling at Michigan officials to “stop the count,” a state in which he was leading at one point.

So which one is it?

The fact that the Republican party as a whole can completely ignore their hypocrisy and outlandishness in order to try to re-elect their candidate is jarring, yet not surprising. In the past four years and beyond, they have chosen to craft a narrative around Trump, often claiming that his racist and sexist comments were simply taken out of context or not true at all. President Trump has even revolved his time in office around discrediting those around him, citing the “Fake News” media as an enemy. This even included notoriously right-leaning Fox News this week, as they hurt the President’s plans of claiming victory, even more, calling Arizona for Biden quicker than any other media outlet.

So yes, the Republican party will do everything they can to keep Trump in office for another term, not worrying about how foolish it makes them look. The likes of Ben Shapiro and Steven Crowder have already spread videos of normal activities occurring, citing voter fraud and suppression. For instance, Shapiro shared a video of Michigan voting officials covering windows while intense protests are going on outside arguing that there must be wrongdoing taking place. Perhaps, they simply want to cover the windows so they can focus on their work instead of being yelled at? In fact, there are live streams of the actual votes being counted in the facility! As for Crowder, he shared a video of a cooler being wheeled into a building from an unmarked van, arguing that they may be the “mysterious” votes that Biden had gotten overnight. Unfortunately for the Republican rhetoric, it was revealed to be just a food delivery. Not exactly a case of voter fraud.

Best of all, when these claims are proven false, the individuals who distributed it in the first place never come out and apologize or state that it was untrue. They go about their day and pretend like nothing happened. Therefore, the supporters of Shapiro and Crowder – among others – still believe that those instances were real cases of voter fraud, not bothering to conduct their own research.

With President Trump claiming voter fraud with no basis whatsoever, he has ignited Conservatives around the country, searching for any possible indication of wrongdoing. His ideal scenario would be to somehow make his way through local courts, all the way up to the Supreme Court, and take advantage of the Republican majority (6-3) in the highest Court in the nation. However, so far, the Trump campaign has only won minor legal motions in Pennsylvania, allowing the GOP observers in polling stations to stand closer to the ballot counters. Besides that, Trump and his lawyers, led by Rudy Giuliani, have failed to make any leeway in their fight to steal the election from the arms of the Democratic party.

If Trump and the Republican party could just make a peaceful concession speech, like those made by John McCain in 2008 or George H.W. Bush in 1992, this could all be over. Unfortunately, he cannot comprehend defeat and has made it clear that he will exercise every legal standing in the book, which will, ultimately, lead to a big waste of time. There is nothing of substance that the Trump team can use. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have won the 2020 Presidential election.

Let’s face it Donnie – you lost.

Own it.
