Q. How long have you been diving and what motivated you to dive?

A. I started last year as a first year and I did gymnastics for 12 years. I knew Eileen Garcia who was on the team and saw what she was able to accomplish by switching over to diving from gymnastics. I decided that a change would be fun after doing the same thing for so long, and I wanted a challenge.

Q. Do you have any memorable moments from last season?

A. I think my most memorable moment was at our championship meet when I got a score that went beyond the goal that I had set for myself at the beginning of the season. It was nice being able to see how far I got in a year.

Q. What are your expectations for this season?

A. I would like to make a national score and just see my scores go up consistently from one meet to the next.

Q. Have you ever played on any other organized sports teams?

A. I played soccer on a club team back home for around 10 years and I competed in gymnastics meets.

Q. How is the team dynamic different when you have to perform individually as opposed to competing all together?

A. Both of them have their advantages and disadvantages. When you are part of a team (like a soccer team), you rely on all your other teammates being where they need to be. You all have to be in sync, but you know that you have people looking out for you. When you are competing individually you don’t necessarily have that same team dynamic pushing you on and you have to find your own motivation to do better. I have been lucky because although diving is very individual, there is a sense of family on the swimming and diving team that is really great to be a part of.

Alex and the Clark Swimming and Diving team have their first home meet this Saturday at 1 pm against Bridgewater State. Use the Meet Mobile app to follow them on your iPhone! Check it out at
