Clarkie improv group The Peapod Squad’s Friday the 13th “Back from the Dead” show took place on September 13 in Jefferson 218. Charlie XCX serenaded the audience as they packed themselves like sardines into the lecture hall. The location was changed last minute from the Grind to Jefferson because of a possible fire hazard, but this did not affect turnout at all. Every seat was filled, and people were standing in the back and sitting in the aisles to see this not-to-miss show.
The Peapod Squad started the show by asking the audience to yell mean things. When they felt they had been insulted enough, the group continued with the show by addressing the change in location. This resulted in The Squad leading the audience through chants of “No more Grind.” The show continued with The Peapod Squad playing a variety of improv games using suggestions from the audience, the first of which was a debate. Audience members called out all sorts of prompts and The Peapod Squad settled on debating apple cider versus pear cider. Team Pear Cider had the pear phones from “iCarly” and “Victorious”, while Team Apple Cider featured a man whose father had been killed by pear cider. Other skits from The Peapod Squad’s show had characters and topics such as Dobby from “Harry Potter”, crazy grandparents, roller skating, Burning Man and more.
There’s a feeling of magic when one is in a room full of people laughing at the same thing. The Peapod crew certainly have the ability to cast this magic, as they had the entire audience laughing the whole time. Needless to say, seeing the Peapod Squad perform is an experience you do not want to miss and I would recommend that you catch their next show.
