During this break, I had the time to listen to lots of music. In this second edition of media reviews, I will be reviewing a small sample of the music I listened to. Music is a large part of my life as a music creator myself. I listened to a lot, but the three I want to highlight the most were “Empty Out Your Pockets” by Juice Wrld, “Streets Colder” by Lil Baby and “5 Dollar Pony Rides” by Mac Miller.
“Empty Out Your Pockets” by the late artist Juice Wrld is off his recent posthumous and possible final album, “The Party Never Ends.” The song is well mixed and has an upbeat catchy production by common collaborator Nick Mira who brings his hit-making skills to this song. Juice Wrld does a carefree rap with his usual bravado and emo lyrics that fans of his style will appreciate. It is not unique, but enjoyable for most rap listeners. If this description sounds like your taste, I recommend you check out his new album, “The Party Never Ends.”
The second song worth highling is “Streets Colder” by Lil Baby. The song is off his most recent album called “Wham (Who Hard As Me).” This song is a chill banger that serves as a reminder that Lil Baby is still on top. The production is primarily done by DY KRAZY, a well known force in the rap game who makes a cold production for the track. Lil Baby uses his signature flow to tell off those who doubt that he still has it. The song is catchy and laid-back for those who enjoy relaxing songs. It is a fitting close to a good album that started the year. I recommend you should check out the other songs on “WHAM” where there is more of his signature style.
The last piece I want to highlight in this review is “5 Dollar Pony Rides” by the late Mac Miller, off his upcoming posthumous album, “Balloonerism.” This song is creative and has fun production by Mac Miller himself and his common collaborator, Thundercat. It is an interesting rap song with psychedelic and electronic instrumentation. Mac Miller brings his singing voice combined with a catchy rap, especially the chorus. Fans of his inventive genre bending combinations will enjoy this song. If you are a fan of Miller, you will like the whole album, which has leaked in the past, and is an important piece of his career.
I hope to do more of these in the future for music enjoyers at Clark.
