Dear readers,
At the beginning of the fall, The Scarlet encouraged you to ask questions and pursue answers about the happenings around Clark and Worcester. Boy, did you deliver. As of the date of this print edition, we have published 194 articles this academic year, ranging from anonymous advice columns to club spotlights to women’s sports and everything in between!
Sophia Lindstrom has broken our record with 40 articles published during her career at The Scarlet. Thanks to our dedicated staff, not only have we done our job of informing the Clark community with high-quality and honest journalism, but we have also lived up to our commitment to protect and promote the student voice.
During the Undergraduate Student Workers strike in March, Managing Editor Morgan Parissee and Opinions Editor Gabe Schmick were at the picket line almost every day, writing and photographing for The Scarlet during our week-long live coverage. Several other staff members contributed to the coverage through edits, quotes and photos.
In April, Scarlet Staff member Sam Espach and Treasurer Effie Hossfeld represented The Scarlet at the Christopher Georges Conference on College Journalism, hosted by Harvard University’s Nieman Foundation. They learned how to protect the newspaper from the administration’s censorship attempts based on other schools’ experiences and about legal resources student journalists can use if needed.
I am immensely proud of each and every writer, editor, photographer and artist who contributed to The Scarlet this year. We would not have succeeded without you.
For the 2025-2026 academic year, The Scarlet will be led by its next Editor-in-Chief, Morgan Parisse, with Gabe Schmick as Managing Editor. We have four new editors joining us next year: Marcus Pulumbo as News Editor, Kennedy Griffin as Opinions Editor, Abbi Gilbert as Sports Editor and Sam Espach as Layout Editor.
I am confident that this new team will rise to the challenge and bring even more greatness to The Scarlet in the coming year.
Thank you to our readers for trusting The Scarlet and continuing to support us, and thank you to our contributors, whose commitment and enthusiasm drives The Scarlet. Your voice is truly unmatched.
Sincerely,
Ava Orofino ‘25
