Acronyms are a staple of the Clark campus, but not everyone knows exactly what these acronyms mean. Here is a guide to the many shorthands used to refer to different aspects of campus life at Clark.
Buildings and Places
ASEC – Shaich Family Alumni & Student Engagement Center: This is where the Student Accessibility Services (SAS) office is, the Career Connections Center, Academic Advising, the Office of Fellowships and Scholarships, the FYSA offices, and the Dean of Students’ office are located. ASEC is also home to the Registrar, Student Accounts, and the campus store.
AC – Academic Commons: The AC is the first floor of the library that is open 24/7. It is home to the Cougar Cafe, Information Technology Services (ITS), the Writing Center, and the offices of the First-Year Success Advisor. There are many tables and couches for students to sit and work at or chat with friends. It is also a great spot for people-watching.
BP – BioPhysics: This is another classroom building that is connected to Sackler. The only way to get into this building is to walk through Sackler. The most common subject taught here is English.
Higgins – The Table at Higgins: This is the only dining hall on campus that offers a variety of meals by Harvest Table. Higgins is open for breakfast from 7 A.M. to 11 A.M., lunch from 11 A.M. to 2:30 P.M., and dinner from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M.
UC – University Center: The UC is home to Higgins, the Bistro, the mailroom, Tilton Hall, and the Grace and Laurie conference rooms. In the basement is the craft room, mailroom, and The Grind. The third floor of this building also has the SLICE office and club offices.
JC – Jonas Clark Hall: This is a main academic hall for classes, which are typically held on floors one and two. The building also houses numerous department offices, including those for psychology and economics. On the fourth floor, you can find the mysterious lobotomy chair.
JSC – Johnson Sanford Center: Upperclassman housing located at the corner of Charlotte St. and Florence St.
Sackler – Arthur M. Sackler Sciences Center: This building is connected to BP and is home to a couple of lecture halls, the most well-known is Sackler 120. This building also features numerous labs where students work.
Organizations, Services, and People
CPG – Center for Counseling and Personal Growth: CPG is located at 114 Woodland St. It offers individual and group counseling from five different clinicians. There is also a staff Psychiatrist available for students. The Fall 2025 group, titled “Breaking Free from Anxiety,” starts on Monday, September 8, at 3:00 P.M. and will meet weekly.
UP – University Police: The University Police are located in the basement of Bullock Hall. The officers do safety patrols around campus and the surrounding areas on foot, in cruisers, and on bicycles 24/7. They are also available to help with room lockouts when RLH, RAs, and campus ambassadors are unavailable. There are 16 officers who work on campus, a dispatch coordinator, an operations manager, and a comfort dog named Mango. The emergency number is 1-508-793-7575 anytime, and for parking information, call 1-508-793-7575 between 9 A.M and 4 P.M.
ITS – Information Technology Services: The ITS desk is located in the AC and is open Monday to Thursday from 8 A.M. to Midnight, Friday from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M., Saturday from Noon to 5 P.M., and Sundays from Noon to Midnight. ITS is able to help with a variety of software issues on your computer and other devices, like connecting to wifi, activating your Clark account, and resetting passwords.
SLICE – Student Leadership, Identity and Community Engagement: Previously known as Student Leadership Programming (SLP), SLICE helps students organize events, organize club meeting locations, and offer leadership development. The SLICE office is located in the UC on the third floor.
FYSA – First Year Success Advisor: The FYSAs are a part of the first-year experience offered at Clark. Your FYSA is an advisor who supports first-year and undeclared sophomores that you can go to for help with academic questions, extracurricular activities, and personal support. The FYSA offices are located on the 3rd floor of ASEC.
RSO – Registered Student Organization: RSOs are clubs and organizations run by students that are registered through SLICE.
RA – Resident Advisor: Resident Advisors are in every dorm hall, and one to two RAs live on every floor. RAs take turns being on duty to assist students in need during the evenings and on alternate weekends.
PM – Peer Mentor: PMs are students who help first years adjust to Clark and college. Through the Clark Navigator program, they meet weekly with their groups.
RLH – Residential Living and Housing: RLH is the group that coordinates housing, works with RAs, and gives you the on-campus living help that you need. The office is located in the basement of Wright Hall.
