A lot happens over the school year: performances, games, dances, protests, academic events, club meetings, and numerous conversations that shape our perception of the community. Unless someone writes it down and captures it, those moments can fade into our distant memories.
That’s where The Scarlet comes in. Our Role is not just to publish articles, but to create a space where we report on student life, the big issues that affect our education and the creative work in which students engage. Sometimes that means reporting on administrative decisions or student activism. It also means sharing the voices of writers through opinions, reviews, creative writing or photographs. In all cases, our goal is the same: to tell the stories that matter to students.
We are a student-run newspaper, run by an editorial board of nine students and feature articles written by a talented team of writers. The team is led by Morgan Parisse and Gabe Schmick, who serve as Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor, respectively. Each of our sections is managed by one of our section editors, Marcus Palumbo, News Editor; Kennedy Griffin, Opinions Editor; Adrien Larochelle, Living Arts Editor; and Abbi Gilbert, Sports Editor. Also instrumental to our team are Effie Hossfeld, our treasurer, and Porter Orvetti, our web editor. Finally, the fearless Staff members of The Scarlet complete our team to create the best newspaper possible by writing about events on and off campus.
The Scarlet has been part of the Clark community since 1939, but its value comes from the people who pick it up. We want students to see themselves and their activities in our pages, and we encourage them to join the conversation. This paper thrives when it reflects a wide range of experiences, questions and ideas.
We invite you to join us on Thursdays 8 P.M. for our weekly meetings.
