In this article, I will put a spotlight on a Clark business around Worcester. Today, we will be discussing The Clark Thrift Store located on Main Street. I got to speak with two employees from the business, Esther and Kate, who gave me information for this article. Additionally, I was fortunate enough to attend an event at which I performed music at the Clark Thrift Store that helped inspire this article.  

The Clark Thrift Store is a business that has many events. These include performances, such as Tiny Desk or Clark performers, as well as the very popular Thrift Store Fashion Show. This includes Clark student volunteers who walk the runway with music live in between. Night Thrifting, Art Clubs and Craft Nights are other examples of events they have there. There is much to do here on a weekly basis during the semester!  

The Clark Thrift Store prides itself as a student-run, affordable thrift store connected to the Entrepreneurial Department. It began in 2010 by students who participated in The Entrepreneurship club’s Clark Tank program. All the items you can buy are donations from the community and Clark. The space is meant to be a comfortable space for all. People can buy clothes, household items, CDs, and accessories such as shoes and jewelry, all at a low and reasonable price. The store is involved with causes such as Sustainability, Business Development and the Arts.  

When asked about future plans, the employees said they plan on doing more events, fostering community in a “third place,” bringing people together and becoming more involved in upcycling. They explained that the Clark Thrift Store can be seen as different from other stores due to the prices, passionate project and good quality. They want a high standard and re-donate products that don’t meet that standard. They know what being a Clark student is like and the need for items that people can feel confident in. The legacy they want to leave is the passionate spirit that they started with and will continue to emulate in all they do.

There’s so much to do here in Worcester, and the Clark Thrift Store is a must-do for all Worcester residents and Clark students.
